The goal

The goal of the association is to save Mesochora and Acheloos from the upcoming flood and the enviromental damage because of the Mesochora’s dam, which is part of the Acheloos’ Diversion project.

7th appeal to the Council of State

Nov. 2020: The Hellenic Council of State, for seventh time in a row, accepted the request of the association (submitted on Nov. 9th, 2017) to cancel the  Environmental Impact Study of the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy.

Mesochora

Mesochora is located in the south-west side of the mountain range Pindus. It is a village of the municipality of Pyli in the Trikala regional unit (region of Thessaly).

Acheloos

Acheloos, also known as Aspropotamos (Ασπροπόταμος), is the second longest river in Greece. Both its headwater and mouth are in the greek mainland.

The Dam

Τhe Dam of Mesochora was originally designed by the PPC of Greece as a pure hydroelectirc project, with 60m height. However, it was then integrated into the Acheloos Diversion project and its hight was raised to 155m.
