Mesochora is a historic capital village in Southwest Pindos. It belongs to the Municipality of Pyli in the regional unit of Trikala, in the region of Thessaly. It has permanent residents all year round and many more in the summer. It is a village of natural beauty, located 800m above the sea level. People enjoy activities in Mesochora all year round (climbing, hunting, swimming, motorcycle riding). During the summer, the number of people gathered in Mesochora is particularly increased, with the peak being the celebration of the Dormition of the Holy Virgin on August 15th and the three three-day festival in the village square.
In terms of urban structure, Mesochora presents a scattered spread in an amphitheater shape including houses built in small settlements (Platanos 1100m., Spitia 1150m., Varka 950m. and Tournos 800m.) above the main settlement. An essential reference point of the wider area is the bed of Acheloos. One gets the impression that everything was built and developed around the river. Of course, the location of the area contributed to this development.
