Mesochora is a verdant place with a rich, diverse flora and fauna. A large percentage of its total area is covered by forests, such as fir forests and deciduous broadleaf – oak forests. While the dominant species is the fir, the flora includes the sycamore, the willow, the cedar, the maple, many fruit-bearing trees (walnuts, cherries, pears, skulls, apples, hazelnuts, quinces, vines) and a wide variety of wild and rare mushrooms.
The mountains of the valley of the upper course of Acheloos and its forests host a multitude of wild animals, such as the well-known brown bear of Pindos, wolf, wild boar, fox, lynx, roe deer, deer, wild goat, wild horse, badger, ferret, squirrel, weasel, turtle, hedgehog, hare, wild cat, variety of snakes, lizards and amphibians.
The avifauna of the area is also important with eagles, ospreys, golden eagles, vultures, hawks, falcons, partridges, cuckoos, owls, nightingales, thrushes, partridges, pheasants, bee-eaters, blackbirds, robins, magpies, buzzards, wood pigeons, sparrows, petrels, bats, etc.
